Albany Training specialise in delivering courses that meet not only the legislative requirements but also meet the needs of your specific industry.

The courses can be run at your premises so that your staff can learn in a familiar setting with other people they already know leading to a relaxed and fun course.

There is as much practical work as possible included in the session to give real hands-on experience and we will also incorporate (if requested) your companies policies and procedures.

We can cater for small groups of staff from 8 people to whole company groups.

The Level 1 award in Health and Safety is run as 3 hour course. This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those who are entering the workplace for the first time, either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment, by providing an awareness of key health and safety issues and the part that they should play in keeping themselves and others free from harm at work. It will also benefit those who are starting a new job – as part of an induction programme.

Course content includes:

• The importance of health and safety in the workplace
• Hazards and risks
• Workplace conditions
• Workplace procedures

The Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.

Course content includes:

• Legislation

• The workplace and workplace equipment

• Manual handling
• Hazardous substances
• Ergonomics and workstation design
• Transport and vehicles

All candidates who have taken the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace are encouraged to take a refresher course three years after completion.

The Fire Safety Awareness Course is designed to help employees recognise fire safety issues in the workplace, and understand how to react when the fire alarm sounds.

Designed for: all employees:

• those with no specific fire-safety role
• those undertaking induction training
• as an introduction for those who intend to move on to further fire-safety training

This course covers the following topics:

• Main causes and effects of fires in the workplace
• Duties and responsibilities (of employers, employees and fire wardens)
• Procedures in the event of a fire
• Actions to be taken in the event of a fire
• Fire prevention measures
• Fire risk management, including risk assessment
• The fire triangle
• Fire risk control measures (active and passive)
• Reporting fire safety issues
• Portable fire-fighting equipment
• Simple checks of portable fire-fighting equipment

The Level 2 Award in Principles of Risk Assessment is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety. It raises employees' awareness of the concept of risk assessment in a work environment.

Its main purpose is to enable learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment. This qualification will therefore give all employees the ability to contribute to the process and act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others.

The course covers the following topics:

• Main causes of accidents and ill health, and their implications for people in the workplace
• Legal requirements for risk assessment
• Principles of risk assessment including:
   - hazards, risks and control measures
   - the five steps of risk assessment
   - the hierarchy of control
   - risk assessment review and record keeping.

This course enables employees to contribute to the development of safer manual handling methods and tasks. It has been designed for all employees

This qualification introduces candidates to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling and outlines what to expect from a manual handling assessment. It will enable employees to develop safer manual handling techniques in the workplace.

The qualification covers the following topics:

• The process of manual handling in the workplace
• Manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them
• Manual handling assessment and control options
• Responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
